Warehouse Setup for Manufacturing

Overview

You have most likely already set up a Warehouse in GoldFinch, so now it is time to take a look at a few options you have in regard to your consumption and output inventory.

Warehouse Record

Below is a brief description of the fields you will want to consider for your warehouse setup as it relates to production.

Field Name

Explanation

Warehouse Name

If you have multiple warehouses, you will want to make sure you are updating the correct setup.

Receive Bin

The default bin for all purchased goods being received.  Refer to the section below on one-bin solutions for more info.

Ship Bin

The default bin for all sellable goods being shipped.  Refer to the section below on one-bin solutions for more info.

Output Bin

This is where your output inventory will be posted by default.  You will want to consider the Inventory Class of your Standard Manufactured Items.

Input Bin

This is where your consumption will be taken from by default.  You will want to consider where this inventory is typically stored and how many movements will be necessary to bring this inventory into the bin.

Batch Output Bin

Only required for Batch Manufacturing.
For Batch Manufactured Items, this is where your output inventory will be posted by default.  You will want to consider the Inventory Class of your Batch Manufactured Items.  If they are mostly subassemblies, you may want to have them output into the Input Bin selected above.

Batch Input Bin

Only required for Batch Manufacturing.
For Batch Manufactured Items, this is where your consumption will be taken from by default.  You will want to consider where you store your Raw Materials and how you move them to prepare for production.

Understanding a One-Bin Solution

As your GoldFinch consultant may have already told you, a "one-bin" solution is always recommended for implementation. What this means is that, if you are not already operating in a bin-managed location, we do not recommend you to change your ERP system and add complexity at the same time.  It is always best to get familiar with your system first and then add complexity later.  That said, it is likely that you will have one bin, usually called PICK, for Receiving and Shipping.  This is the main bin you operate from.

When it comes to Manufacturing, we will sometimes suggest a second bin for Production, usually called STAGING.  This bin will typically represent the inventory sitting on the production floor waiting to be consumed.  Setting up your warehouse in this way and controlling the inventory you bring to the floor have many benefits.  You will want to read the section on Replenishing the Production Bin before making this decision.
