Unit of Measure Setup for Supply Planning and Order Creation
GoldFinch calculates the Supply Plan based on the Base Unit of Measure defined for each item, rather than using multiple units of measure that may be associated with the item. To optimize this process, it’s important to configure the Base Unit of Measure appropriately based on the item type.
Raw Material Items
Set the Base Unit of Measure to the most commonly used stocking unit.
This may not necessarily be the smallest or largest unit of measure available.
Define additional units of measure for purchasing and consumption purposes.
Finished Goods
Set the Base Unit of Measure to the most commonly used selling unit.
Batch Manufactured Items
Use a Weight Unit of Measure (e.g., KG or LB) as the Base Unit of Measure.
Set up various batch units of measure to accommodate different batch sizes.
Creating Supply Orders
When creating Supply Orders, GoldFinch uses different units of measure depending on the item type.
Non-Batch Manufactured Items
GoldFinch will use the Purchase Unit of Measure defined on the SKU to create Purchase Orders or Work Orders.
Batch Manufactured Items
GoldFinch will use the Default Batch Unit of Measure assigned to the item to create Work Orders.
By following these guidelines for setting up units of measure, you can streamline the supply planning and order creation processes, ensuring more accurate and efficient inventory management.
