Report Work Order Output by Item Routing

Overview

In GoldFinch ERP, there are two ways to report raw material consumption and output from a Work Order:

  1. Report output for all Item Routings: By default, the same Production Journal can be used to report output and consumption for all Item Routings and Item Formulas (raw materials) in the Work Order.

  2. Report output for each Item Routing: A Production Journal can be used to report output and consumption for each Item Routing (one Production Journal per Item Routing Work Line).

This guide will show you how to set up GoldFinch to create a Production Journal that reports output and consumption for each Item Routing Work Line.

Note: The Report Work Order Output by Item Routing feature does not work for Outside Services. For Outside Services, refer to the Co-Packing Management (Contract Manufacturing) section.

Setup for Reporting Output by Item Routing

Output Item:

  • On the output item record, check the Report Output by Routing option.

  • Item Routing:

    • Ensure each of the output item's Item Routings has a unique Operation Number.

    • If Report Output by Routing is enabled, the last routing step cannot be an Outside Service.

  • Item Formula:

    • If necessary, link each Item Formula (raw material) to an Item Routing by entering the Operation Number of the Item Routing.

Creating a Work Order

  1. Follow the standard procedure for creating a Work Order.

  2. By default, each Work Order Line (Work Line) will have:

    • A Line Status of Open.

    • The Output Quantity equal to the Output Quantity specified on the Work Order.

Creating a Production Journal for Each Item Routing

  1. Follow the standard procedure for creating a Production Journal.

    • GoldFinch will create a Production Journal for the first open Item Routing Work Line.

  2. Raw Materials:

    • Raw materials linked to the Item Routing Work Line will be added to the Production Journal.

    • Raw materials not linked to any Item Routing Work Line will only be added to the Production Journal for the last Item Routing Work Line.

  3. Quantities:

    • The Input Quantity for each Production Journal will default to the previous Production Journal's Output Quantity.

    • The Expected Consumption Quantity of both the Item Routing and raw materials is based on the Input Quantity and is editable. If a Scrap % is defined on the Item Formula, the Expected Consumption Quantity will be adjusted accordingly.

    • The Output Quantity in the Production Journal is also editable, but changes to the Output Quantity do not affect the Expected Consumption Quantity for the Item Routing or raw materials.

Work Line Status and Posting

  1. Work Line Status:

    • When a Production Journal is created, the Work Line Status of the related Item Routing and raw materials is changed to WIP (Work in Progress).

    • When a Production Journal is posted, the Work Line Status is changed to Finished. The Output Quantity for both the Item Routing and raw materials is also updated.

  2. Posting to Inventory:

    • Raw Material Consumption: Inventory is updated after each Production Journal is posted.

    • Output Quantity: Output is not posted to inventory until the last Production Journal is posted.

    • The Last Operation field is checked when the Production Journal is created for the last Item Routing Work Line. When the last Production Journal is posted, the Output Quantity is posted to inventory.

By using this method, you can accurately report and manage output and consumption for each step in your manufacturing process, allowing for more granular tracking of production stages in GoldFinch.
