Phantom BOMs
Overview
Phantom BOMs in GoldFinch are useful for simplifying complex manufacturing processes where intermediate components are not stocked separately but are part of a larger assembly. Follow these steps to set up and use Phantom BOMs effectively.
Steps to Set Up Phantom BOMs:
Phantom BOM Items Must Be Service Items:
All Phantom BOM items must be designated as Service Items in the system.
Set Up Item Formulas for Phantom BOMs:
Define the Item Formula for each Phantom BOM item. This formula outlines the components required to produce the Phantom BOM.
Add Phantom BOM to Parent Item’s Formula:
Add the Phantom BOM item as a component in the Item Formula of the Parent Item.
Differentiate Phantom BOMs:
To easily identify Phantom BOMs from other service items, include "Phantom BOM" in the item description.
Automatic Replacement in Work Orders:
When a Work Order is created for the Parent Item, GoldFinch automatically replaces the Phantom BOM component with its underlying Item Formulas, streamlining the production process.
Link to Operation No.
You can specify the Link to Operation No. for Phantom BOM components to align with your manufacturing routing.
Example Setup:
Parent Item has 3 Item Routings:
Operation No. | Work Center |
---|---|
100 | WC-A |
200 | WC-B |
300 | WC-C |
The Parent Item has 3 Item Formula Lines:
Component | Link to Operation No. |
---|---|
A | 100 |
Phantom BOM | 200 |
B | 300 |
The Phantom BOM itself has 3 Item Formula Lines:
Component | Link to Operation No. |
---|---|
Sub-A | 100 |
Sub-B | |
Sub-C | 1000 |
Work Order Linking Process:
When creating a Work Order, GoldFinch automatically links components to the correct operation routing based on the Link to Operation No. values.
Operation No. | Work Center | Component | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
100 | WC-A | ||
A | |||
Sub-A | Component’s Link to Operation No. (100) is used. | ||
200 | WC-B | ||
Sub-B | Uses Phantom BOM’s default Link to Operation No. (200) since none is specified for Sub-B. | ||
Sub-C | Uses Phantom BOM’s default Link to Operation No. (200) since none is specified for Sub-B. | ||
300 | WC-C | ||
